The group is structured around two research lines:<\/p>\n
Regarding archaeometric and materials studies, the objectives for the coming years will focus on two main areas. On the one hand, the development of new analytical methods that will enable further progress in the identification and differentiation of stone materials that are indistinguishable to the naked eye (especially white, white-grey and veined marbles), with particular emphasis on materials from the Iberian Peninsula and the Pyrenees, whose use has become increasingly evident in recent years. On the other hand, the research will examine how these marbles and other materials (limestones from Espej\u00f3n de Soria, broccatello<\/em> from Tortosa, glass imitations of marble) were configured as means of symbolic expression of political prestige, economic power, self-representation, links with the past, etc., from Antiquity onwards, as well as the continuity of this conception alongside the purely functional reuse of these materials throughout subsequent centuries.<\/p>\n With regard to artistic productions in stone, research will continue on ornamental and representational elements in public and private spaces (epigraphy, sculpture and architecture). We will focus our attention on the production of the workshops (officinae) of Tarraco<\/em> and Barcino<\/em>. Particular attention will be paid, on the one hand, to honorary monuments and monuments of public representation, their distribution and influence on the other cities of the province of Hispania Tarraconensis<\/em>, and the typological relationships between the iconographic models of statuary.
