She did her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Alexandra Livarda and Dr. N\u00faria Roman\u00ed Sala. Her doctoral research, titled <em>\u201c<\/em><em>Exploring Roman tastes: An interdisciplinary approach, using archaeobotany, organic residue analysis and GMM to reconstruct dietary habits in the northeast of the Iberian Peninsula<\/em><em>\u201d<\/em> combines archaeobotany, organic residue analysis, GMM to reconstruct foodways and socio-economic dynamics in the western provinces of the Roman Empire.<\/p>\n<p>Her research focuses on two key archaeological sites in modern-day Catalonia, the Roman town of Guissona (<em>Iesso<\/em>) and the Republican military fortress of Puig Castellar of Biosca. By combining archaeobotany, organic residue analysis, and geometric morphometrics (GMM), her work reconstructs the complex relationships between people, plants, and culture in the ancient world. The integration of these complementary methods allows for the exploration of food not only as sustenance but also as a marker of identity, connectivity, and social dynamics.<a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2025\/doctoral-thesis-defense-on-roman-tastes-in-the-northeast-of-the-iberian-peninsula\/img_20230119_124815-2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-103809\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-103809 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_20230119_124815-400x533.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"533\" srcset=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_20230119_124815-400x533.jpg 400w, https:\/\/icac.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_20230119_124815-768x1024.jpg 768w, https:\/\/icac.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_20230119_124815-1152x1536.jpg 1152w, https:\/\/icac.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_20230119_124815-1536x2048.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/icac.cat\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/IMG_20230119_124815-scaled.jpg 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The thesis presents three main studies: the archaeobotanical analysis of waterlogged and charred plant remains, providing a detailed view of Roman agriculture and diet; the GMM study of grape pips, revealing insights into viticulture, grape diversity, and trade; and the organic residue analysis of ceramic vessels, identifying traces of food preparation and consumption practices.
