Full assistance at the ICAC’s conference room last Friday, May 31, on the occasion of the IV Interdisciplinary Seminar on Epigraphy and Archaeometry<\/strong><\/a>, which also hosted a tribute to Rosa M. Mercado<\/strong>, a young archaeologist trained in the\u00a0Master’s Degree in Classical Archeology<\/a> (joined URV-UAB- ICAC).<\/p>\n

More than fifty people attended throughout the day to the fifteen presentations scheduled.<\/p>\n

During the more academic part of the event, there were more than ten communications on topics related to numismatics, metals and the last issues in different archaeological sites and deposits where these sort of pieces can be found.<\/p>\n

Ignacio Montero<\/a><\/strong>, CSIC researcher and expert in archaeometallurgy, presented the paper\u00a0Circulaci\u00f3n de la plata entre la Pen\u00ednsula Ib\u00e9rica y el Mediterr\u00e1neo Oriental<\/em>\u00a0with which he explored the latest advances in the identification of the origin of the silver by combining different analytical techniques. He especially highlighted the possible use of peninsular mineral (both silver and lead, necessary for the extraction) in the other end of the Mediterranean.<\/p>\n

Marta Campo<\/a><\/strong>, former director of the Numismatic Catalan Office of the National Museum of Art of Catalonia, and\u00a0Pere Castanyer<\/a>, Marta\u00a0 Santos<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Joaquim Tremoleda<\/a>, from the del Archaeological Museum of Catalonia – Emp\u00faries, presented a set of denarius founded in the Insula 30 of the Roman city of Ampurias in the 2016 campaign of archaeological excavation works. This little treasure<\/em>, as the experts call it, represents an exceptional finding not only because it was found in an archaeological context but also because of its composition \u2012formed only by Roman denarius\u2012 in a chronological moment in which the Greek-tradition Emporian coinage and the Iberian currency also circulated in this settlement.<\/p>\n

Other presentations talked about the bronze deposit of Colomina de Bor, in Bellver de Cerdanya (Josep Gallart, Territorial Services of the Catalan Government in Lleida), the metallic objects in the necr\u00f3polis of Almenar (Ares Vidal,\u00a0Iltirta<\/a>), or the importance of the metal in the Iberian necropolis (Maria Carme Belarte<\/a><\/strong>, ICREA-ICAC), among others.<\/p>\n

Afternoon communications gave voice to young researchers, with the participation of PhD researchers from the ICAC and from other institutions. Thus, the latest developments in archaeological interventions in the fortress of Vilars \u2012in Arbeca (Alba Castellano and Jordi Mart\u00ednez, GIP), in the site of Valencia \u201cla Vella\u201d \u2012in Riba-roja de T\u00faria (Iv\u00e1n Fern\u00e1ndez<\/a>, Francesc Rodr\u00edguez<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Karen Fortuny<\/a>, ICAC), or in the Castellet de Banyoles (\u00d2scar Cald\u00e9s, UB).<\/p>\n

In the part most related to the tribute to Rosa M. Mercado, the researchers\u00a0M. Carme Belarte<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0N\u00faria Rafel<\/a>\u00a0dedicated two heartfelt interventions to her; and her young colleagues, especially\u00a0Laura Gal\u00e1n<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Karen Fortuny<\/a>, to whom we must thank the initiative of the event, remembered her person and her relationship with archaeology.<\/p>\n
