IX-I BC)\u00bb, leaded by\u00a0<strong>Rafel Jornet<\/strong> (UB\u00a0 &#8211; M\u00f3n Iber ROCS),\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/cbelarte\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Maria Carme Belarte<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0(ICREA-ICAC), Jordi Morer (M\u00f3n Iber ROCS), David Asensio (UB &#8211; UAB &#8211; M\u00f3n Iber ROCS) and Joan Sanmart\u00ed (UB). With funding from the Department of Culture of the Catalan government (Generalitat de Catalunya) and the city council of Gandesa.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<strong>excavation campaign 2019\u00a0(July 8th &#8211; 27th)<\/strong>\u00a0will be mainly about drawing and documentation of structures.\u00a0During 2019 spring, a preventive intervention was carried out in the settlement to remove old soil and prepare the access area. Now, these preliminary works will be completed and the new structures discovered during the last intervention will be documented. The extended excavation area made possible to locate the <strong>remains of a habitat sector from the 3rd century BC<\/strong>, with numerous vestiges of houses foundations and streets.<\/p>\n<p>Third excavation campaign (2016) enabled the documentation of a set of structures defined as <strong>an oil mill from the\u00a03rd century BC, the oldest one in Catalonia<\/strong>, which belongs to the middle Iron Age and was abandoned around 200 BC. The buildings communicate with each other through apse enclosures that probably had a defensive function.<\/p>\n<p>The most oriental building is the one studied at the end of the 80s by N\u00faria Rafel. It was described as <strong>a linen washing and textile production room<\/strong>. In the last excavation campaigns, there were abundant archaeological findings, standing out the large ceramic containers and loom weights, as well as carpological remains (a lot of grape seeds, <em>Vitis vinifera<\/em>). Overall results of the different archaeological interventions indicate that this area of \u200b\u200bthe settlement has a strong economic and artisanal character.<\/p>\n<p>In one of the rooms, there was found a foundation ritual that can be described as a cut in the natural rock with a polished stone inside, a piece of ceramic and a pig bone.
