{"id":41786,"date":"2019-07-08T09:50:06","date_gmt":"2019-07-08T07:50:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.icac.cat\/en\/?p=41786"},"modified":"2019-07-16T09:27:16","modified_gmt":"2019-07-16T07:27:16","slug":"testing-the-system-of-automatic-detection-of-ceramic-fragments-in-sardinia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2019\/testing-the-system-of-automatic-detection-of-ceramic-fragments-in-sardinia\/","title":{"rendered":"Testing the system of automatic detection of ceramic fragments in Sardinia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/research\/research-teams\/landscape-archaeology-giap\/\" target=\"_blank\">GIAP <\/a>research team is been invited to test its <strong>automatic detection system of ceramic fragments<\/strong> in Sardinia, as an activity of the research project LASS. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/horengo\/\" target=\"_blank\">H\u00e8ctor Orengo<\/a><\/strong>, supported by <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/paliende\/\" target=\"_blank\">Paloma Aliende<\/a>, from the ICAC&#8217;s\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/services\/graphic-documentation-unit\/presentation\/\" target=\"_blank\">Graphic Documentation Unit<\/a>, and the collaboration of the ICAC&#8217;s visiting researcher\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/agarcia\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arnau Garcia<\/a>, will be in Sardinia from July 7 to 12.<\/p>\n<p>The project\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/landscapearchaeologyofsouthwestsardinia.wordpress.com\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>LASS,\u00a0Landscape Archaeology of Southwest Sardinia Project<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0aims to define human-environment interactions from the Neolithic to the Late Bronze Age\u00a0<span class=\"st\">(ca. 950-720 BC), a period that in the specific case of Sardinia is known as\u00a0<em>Nuragic<\/em>\u00a0and it led to a whole civilization. The study area, however, focuses on the low hills and small valleys between the Sulcis Mountains and the Gulf of Sant\u2019Antioco (a patchwork landscape of schist, granites, and karst, possessing fertile valleys as well as varied mineral resources), in the southwest of Sardinia.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The project is an initiative of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.unipd.it\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Padova <\/a>(Italy), the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.beniculturali.it\/\" target=\"_blank\">Department of Cultural Heritage and Activities<\/a>\u00a0(Italian Government), the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.sardegnacultura.it\/j\/v\/253?s=18874&amp;v=2&amp;c=2488&amp;c1=2128&amp;t=1\" target=\"_blank\">Archaeological Area Pani Loriga<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.fsu.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Florida State University<\/a>\u00a0(USA).<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/horengo\/\" target=\"_blank\">Orengo<\/a> y el <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/\" target=\"_blank\">ICAC<\/a> have been involved to the project due to Orengo&#8217;s work on\u00a0<strong>artificial intelligence to settlements detection<\/strong>.
