{"id":43513,"date":"2019-11-19T14:59:11","date_gmt":"2019-11-19T13:59:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.icac.cat\/en\/?p=43513"},"modified":"2019-11-19T16:12:31","modified_gmt":"2019-11-19T15:12:31","slug":"la-imagen-del-imperio-un-mensaje-de-poder-y-prestigio-que-permanece-eternamente-vinculado-al-marmol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2019\/la-imagen-del-imperio-un-mensaje-de-poder-y-prestigio-que-permanece-eternamente-vinculado-al-marmol\/","title":{"rendered":"La imagen del Imperio: un mensaje de poder y prestigio que permanece eternamente vinculado al m\u00e1rmol"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/es\/difusio\/activitats-de-licac\/agenda\/barcino-tarraco-roma-poder-i-prestigi-en-marbre-reunio-internacional\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>BARCINO-TARRACO-ROMA. <\/em>POWER AND PRESTIGE IN MARBLE<\/a><\/h6>\n<h6><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/es\/difusio\/activitats-de-licac\/agenda\/barcino-tarraco-roma-poder-i-prestigi-en-marbre-reunio-internacional\/\" target=\"_blank\">International meeting in homage to Isabel Rod\u00e0 de Llanza<\/a><\/h6>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The ICAC and the URV, with the collaboration of the museum MUHBA in Barcelona, organize an expert internacional meeting to reflect on the\u00a0<strong>uses of marble as a symbol of status and power in the Roman Empire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #800000;\">21-23 November, MUHBA Pla\u00e7a del Rei (Barcelona)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>The ubiquity of <strong>marbles and other ornamental\u00a0rocks<\/strong> (<em>marmora<\/em>) in ancient cities, both in\u00a0the municipalities and colonies of the Empire \u2014such as <em>Barcino<\/em>\u2014 and in the large\u00a0provincial cities \u2014including <em>Tarraco<\/em>\u2014\u00a0powerfully illustrates how the power of\u00a0<em>Roma<\/em>, the great capital, looms over all\u00a0manifestations, whether political, economic\u00a0or social.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, the strategies and technical skills\u00a0of the ancient Romans are illustrated by the\u00a0high degree of adaptability and logistical\u00a0power employed to <strong>mine quarries<\/strong>, distribute\u00a0the material along great <strong>trade routes<\/strong> and\u00a0transform it to serve the image of the\u00a0Empire: a message of power and prestige\u00a0that is eternally linked to marble.<\/p>\n<p>This international meeting wants to emphasise the value\u00a0of these materials as <strong>status symbols<\/strong> that are found in architectural decoration,\u00a0sculpture and monumental epigraphy,\u00a0among other uses. It will bring together experts from different academic fields and\u00a0scientific disciplines from Catalonia, the\u00a0Iberian Peninsula and the international\u00a0sphere in general.<\/p>\n<p>The event is also a\u00a0<strong>homage to Dr\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/iroda\/\" target=\"_blank\">Isabel Rod\u00e0 de Llanza<\/a><\/strong>, Emeritus Professor of Archaeology in the UAB and former director of the ICAC, who will give a <strong>masterclass\u00a0<\/strong>before the closure of the meeting. saturday November 23th at 12.30 h.
