Desde finales de agosto, se est\u00e1 llevando a cabo una nueva excavaci\u00f3n arqueol\u00f3gica en la ciudad visigoda de Valencia la Vella (Riba-roja de T\u00faria).<\/h6>\n

The intervention is part of the\u00a0research and dissemination project<\/a>\u00a0promoted, since 2016, by the\u00a0Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0City Council of Riba-roja de T\u00faria<\/a> (region of\u00a0Camp de T\u00faria<\/a>, Valencia).<\/p>\n

The action is also funded by the\u00a0Area of Culture of the Diputaci\u00f3n de Valencia<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic has discouraged, this summer, the\u00a0V edition of the\u00a0Christian and Visigothic Archeology Course<\/strong>, which this year had planned the participation of about twenty archaeology students and it has been done yearly since 2016.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

However, it has been possible to carry out\u00a0an archaeoogical intervention, led by Miquel Rossell\u00f3, Albert Ribera and\u00a0Josep Maria Macias<\/a> (ICAC)<\/strong>; with the collaboration of\u00a0Jordi Padin (Universidad Polit\u00e9cnica de Valencia)<\/a>\u00a0and the company\u00a0Global Mediterr\u00e1nea<\/a>.<\/p>\n

This 2020 archaeological excavation aims to improve the knowledge and characterization of the different urban sectors of the city and their\u00a0terraced\u00a0structures.<\/p>\n

\n

There will also be\u00a0geophysical surveys\u00a0<\/strong>to define the characteristics of an extensive archaeological subsoil.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

So far, the research project<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0related to the site of Valencia “la Vella” and its archaeological works has\u00a0identified an\u00a0ex\u00a0novo\u00a0<\/em>fortified Visigoth city, of almost 5 ha of surface, built in the second half of the 6th century (\u00abArchaeological excavations in Valencia “la Vella” (Riba-roja de T\u00faria)\u00bb<\/a>).<\/p>\n

The wall of this Visigoth city is today the most relevant element of the archaeological site.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Archaeological works have come to dig 250 m2\u00a0<\/sup>and\u00a0established a theoretic walled perimeter of 981 m<\/strong>, of which 416 have been documented.\u00a0Many metres remain hidden by vegetation or terraces.<\/p>\n

There is been also located the\u00a0main access to the city and seven towers\u00a0<\/strong>(researchers work with the hypothesis of a maximum of 25 or 28 towers in the walled perimeter).<\/p>\n
