{"id":52782,"date":"2021-03-15T17:54:55","date_gmt":"2021-03-15T16:54:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.icac.cat\/en\/?p=52782"},"modified":"2021-03-17T14:18:06","modified_gmt":"2021-03-17T13:18:06","slug":"icac-moves-forward-the-consolidation-of-archaeozoology-as-an-essential-discipline-to-study-antiquity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2021\/icac-moves-forward-the-consolidation-of-archaeozoology-as-an-essential-discipline-to-study-antiquity\/","title":{"rendered":"ICAC moves forward the consolidation of archaeozoology as an essential discipline to study Antiquity"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>This March 2021, Dr L\u00eddia Colominas began a new stage of her research career at ICAC, through a research contract from the Ram\u00f3n y Cajal Spanish government call.<\/h6>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/lcolominas\/\" target=\"_blank\">L\u00eddia Colominas<\/a> is an archaeologist specialized in the study of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Romanization_(cultural)\" target=\"_blank\">Romanization<\/a> in the Western Mediterranean. Her research focuses on the study of interactions between animals and societies from the first millennium BC and the change of era, through <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Zooarchaeology\" target=\"_blank\">archaeozoology<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>After a postdoc stage at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arch.cam.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">McDonald Institute for Archaeological Research<\/a>\u00a0of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cam.ac.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\">University of Cambridge<\/a> (2012-2014), she joined the ICAC with a Juan de la Cierva research contract (2015), with which she carried out a <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/recerca\/projectes-de-recerca\/projecte\/romanitzacio-i-practiques-ramaderes-estudi-de-la-conformacio-dels-paisatges-ramaders-a-la-plana-de-lemporda-i-als-pirineus-orientals-a-traves-de-larqueozoologia\/\" target=\"_blank\">research project on changes in livestock practices in Iberian and Roman times in the Plana de l\u2019Empord\u00e0 and in the Eastern Pyrenees<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In 2017 <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/lcolominas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Colominas<\/a> gained an ICAC&#8217;s postdoctoral research contract and led <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/recerca\/projectes-de-recerca\/projecte\/rere-les-passes-de-la-transhumancia-a-lantiguitat-estudi-de-les-practiques-ramaderes-i-dels-paisatges-culturals-als-pirineus-orientals-a-traves-de-larqueozoologia\/\" target=\"_blank\">a multidisciplinary project on transhumance in Ancient times<\/a>, applying paleogenetic and morphometric analyzes.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight-block\">\n<p>These two projects have provided <strong>novel and highly relevant data on livestock practices in high mountain areas during Ancient times<\/strong>, proposing the appearance of flat-high mounains animal mobility already existing in Roman times.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Have a look at some of these results in the following publications:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/hdl.handle.net\/2072\/376759\" target=\"_blank\">&#8220;What happened in the highlands? Foto: ICAC.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"highlight-block\">\n<p>In 2020, <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/lcolominas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Colominas<\/a> won a Ram\u00f3n y Cajal contract (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ciencia.gob.es\/portal\/site\/MICINN\/menuitem.d20caeda35a0c5dc7c68b11001432ea0\/?vgnextoid=6c79282978ea0210VgnVCM1000001034e20aRCRD\" target=\"_blank\">Programa nacional de contrataci\u00f3n e incorporaci\u00f3n de RH, del Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovaci\u00f3n<\/a>, Spanish Science and Innovation Ministry) and bringed it to the ICAC. This new research stage opens the way to <strong>consolidating archaeozoology as an essential discipline to study Ancient societies in the ICAC<\/strong>. Autora: L\u00eddia Colominas (ICAC).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>In this sense, <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/lcolominas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Colominas<\/a>&#8216; research addresses a double perspective: research on identity, status and social inequalities of Ancient societies through the study of food and ritual practices; and the investigation of the economy through the study of the cattle ranch and the animal trade.<\/p>\n<p>From a methodological point of view, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/lcolominas\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Colominas<\/a> has integrated different novel analytical techniques into classical archaeozoological methodology<\/strong>. Her work has applied paleogenetic analysis to provide information on issues such as animal migration and trade, and has also applied Geometric Morphometry to provide data on the mobility of animals and their management and breeding systems.<\/p>\n<p>In the ICAC, Dr Colominas&#8217; research joins the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/giap.icac.cat\/\" target=\"_blank\">Landscape Archaeology research team (GIAP)<\/a>, where along with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/alivarda\/\" target=\"_blank\">Dr Alexandra Livarda<\/a>\u00a0they are developing a reserach line on bioarchaeology.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This March 2021, Dr L\u00eddia Colominas began a new stage of her research career at ICAC, through a research contract from the Ram\u00f3n y Cajal Spanish government call.
