2020 will remain forever etched in our memories. It has been a year of suspension of face-to-face activities and many kinds of academic activities, conferences, trips, stays, fieldwork, lab research, and dissemination.<\/span><\/p>\n

The impact of the pandemic on the field of\u00a0archaeology<\/strong>\u00a0has been significant. A survey conducted by the\u00a0Plataforma Estatal de Profesionales de la Arqueolog\u00eda<\/a>\u00a0reported economic losses of around 36 million euros in Spain, only in the first wave; in a very fragile and vulnerable sector, with a high level of cancellation or decrease in activity.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the ICAC activities began to resume in June, but with many limitations. It is difficult to put the collective activity and employment decrease in numbers, in a very fragile sector that was already strongly hit by the 2008 crisis. In the research centers, and specifically in the ICAC, the direct impact has been less, but indirectly also quite so significant.<\/span><\/p>\n

Despite the impact of the pandemic, the ICAC closed 2020 with a positive balance of its scientific activity and results.<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Nonetheless, 2020 has been a positive year for the Institute, in line with the results of previous years. In fact, the year ended with the\u00a0approval by the Board of Directors of the ICAC Action Plan 2021-2024<\/a>, which establishes the strategic lines of action and future challenges for the center.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The most ambitious axes of the\u00a0Action Plan 2021-2024<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0include keeping the upward trend of internationalization of research<\/strong>, expanding external funding through European programmes, implementing the\u00a0stabilization of research staff<\/strong>\u00a0with the\u00a0creation of new senior researcher positions (R4), fostering post-doctoral (R2 y R3) and pre-doctoral (R1) positions, and developing the research career; as well as carrying out an improvement and upgrade of the workspaces, labs and facilities <\/strong>of the Institute’s headquarters in Tarragona.<\/span><\/p>\n

After the last Board of Directors meeting (June 23, 2021), the ICAC\u00a0Activity Report 2020<\/a>\u00a0is approved and available on the website<\/a>\u00a0and the\u00a0Recercat<\/a>\u00a0open repository.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
