{"id":55203,"date":"2021-07-26T09:13:12","date_gmt":"2021-07-26T07:13:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.icac.cat\/en\/?p=55203"},"modified":"2021-07-26T10:50:13","modified_gmt":"2021-07-26T08:50:13","slug":"documentation-of-the-access-door-to-the-archaeological-site-of-coll-del-moro-in-gandesa-tarragona","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2021\/documentation-of-the-access-door-to-the-archaeological-site-of-coll-del-moro-in-gandesa-tarragona\/","title":{"rendered":"Documentation of the access door to the archaeological site of Coll del Moro in Gandesa (Tarragona)"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>2021 archaeological excavation campaign at the <strong>Coll del Moro archaeological site<\/strong> (in Gandesa, Tarragona), which took place from June 21 to July 9, within the framework of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/prehist\/grups-de-recerca-portada\/gr-gracpe\" target=\"_blank\">UB-GRACPE<\/a> and ICAC research project <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/recerca\/projectes-de-recerca\/projecte\/la-formacio-desenvolupament-i-dissolucio-de-la-cultura-iberica-al-curs-inferior-de-lebre-s-ix-i-ac\/\" target=\"_blank\">Formation, development, and dissolution of the Iberian culture in the lower course of the Ebro river (9th-1st century BC)<\/a>, has allowed completing the <strong>delimitation of the site on the northwest side<\/strong>, where it has been possible the documentation of an about 30 meters wall section, incorporating the tower already known in the defensive system.<\/p>\n<div class=\"destacat-entrevista dreta\">\n<div class=\"small-text\">\n<p>It has been possible to document a section of the wall in about 30 meters.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The project led by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/prehist\/component\/tlpteam\/team\/dr-rafel-jornet-niella?Itemid=220\" target=\"_blank\">Rafel Jornet <\/a>(UB &#8211; M\u00f3n Iber ROCS), <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/who-are-we\/staff\/cbelarte\/\" target=\"_blank\">Maria Carme Belarte<\/a> (ICREA-ICAC), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/Jordi-Morer-2\" target=\"_blank\">Jordi Morer<\/a> (M\u00f3n Iber ROCS), <span data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/David-Asensio\" target=\"_blank\">David\u00a0<\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.researchgate.net\/profile\/David-Asensio\" target=\"_blank\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">Asensio<\/span><\/a> (UB &#8211; UAB &#8211; M\u00f3n Iber ROCS), and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ub.edu\/prehist\/component\/tlpteam\/team\/dr-joan-sanmarti-grego?Itemid=220\" target=\"_blank\"><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span data-ccp-charstyle=\"Hyperlink\">Joan Sanmart\u00ed<\/span><\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"none\"><span data-ccp-parastyle=\"Normal (Web)\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span>(UB) has documented also, <strong>the access door of the fortified settlement<\/strong>, which was built in Iberian times and reused in the Iberian-Roman phase of the settlement. Protected by the tower, the door is about 3 m wide, and opens onto a funnel-shaped passageway, narrowing inward. Photo: UB-ICAC.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<div class=\"destacat-entrevista dreta\">\n<div class=\"small-text\">\n<p>In the Ibero-Roman period the door was modified, reducing its width.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The walls that delimit this passageway have a preserved height of about 4 m. The door is accessed from the outside through a stone-built ramp, uncovered in a 12 m long section, which spans a slope of the terrain of about 2 m; all this gives monumentality to the whole. In the Iberian-Roman period, the door was modified, reducing its width. This discovery allows us to know how to improve the character of the site at the time of the conquest, probably <strong>a <em>castellum<\/em> or fortified square<\/strong>, similar to that of other sites known in Catalonia at the same time.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;134233117&quot;:true,&quot;134233118&quot;:true,&quot;335551550&quot;:6,&quot;335551620&quot;:6,&quot;335559739&quot;:180}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Regarding the archaeological materials recovered in this campaign, among the most outstanding finds highlights <strong>an Iberian inscription on a ceramic jar<\/strong>, in the entrance area.
