{"id":82662,"date":"2023-02-15T17:40:28","date_gmt":"2023-02-15T16:40:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/?p=82662"},"modified":"2023-02-16T14:20:42","modified_gmt":"2023-02-16T13:20:42","slug":"ongoing-costa-de-la-serra-2023","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2023\/ongoing-costa-de-la-serra-2023\/","title":{"rendered":"New ongoing archaeological works at Costa de la Serra (La Secuita, Tarragona)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>This February the ICAC started the ninth archaeological campaign at the site of Costa de la Serra (La Secuita, Tarragon\u00e8s).<\/h6>\n<p>From February 2 to March 3, an intervention is carried out with a small field team made up of ICAC researchers and technicians, and students of the inter-university <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/training\/master-applied-classical-archaeology\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Master&#8217;s Degree in Applied Classical Archeology &#8211; MACA (URV-ICAC-UAB)<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Costa de la Serra archaeological site is in the municipality of <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/La_Secuita\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">La Secuita<\/a>, about 13 km north of the city of Tarragona. It is a small late-Republican Roman fort, dating from the end of the 2nd century BC and the beginning of the 1st century BC. Since 2014, the ICAC has carried out archaeological interventions there, which have revealed the existence of<strong> a military settlement that was intentionally destroyed at the time of its abandonment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight-block\">\n<p>The main purpose of this 2023 campaign is <strong>to delimit a large depression located in the highest area of \u200b\u200bthe archaeological site<\/strong> and whose functionality is unknown. Photo: ICAC (CC 4.0).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"destacat-entrevista dreta\">\n<div class=\"small-text\">\n<p>Archaeologists work with different hypotheses and expect to be able to determine the relationship between the uses of this element with the rest of the structures identified on the site.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>On the other hand, the stratigraphy continues to provide a rich material context, both at the level of ceramic materials and other elements (fragments of construction elements such as pavements, cladding, and ceilings) that will allow researchers to better understand the role of the architecture in the place.
