A group of ArPA-LIRA researchers is undertaking archaeological prospection works in a wooded area in central France to document quarries that could have been exploited in Roman times.<\/h6>\n

Marie-Claire Savin<\/a>, Andrea Collado<\/a> and Jordi Oliver<\/a>, members of the ICAC’s Unit for Archaeometric Studies (UEA), have traveled to the areas of Ni\u00e8vre and Alier (France) to document some quarries that could have been exploited in Roman times.<\/p>\n

Through this, the team will obtain valuable information to determine the characteristics of the marble in the area and thus be able to establish the origin of the archaeological pieces and, also, the area of \u200b\u200bdistribution of the different varieties documented in the area.<\/p>\n

This intervention belongs to a research project of the Archaeometric Studies Unit (UEA)<\/strong><\/a> on archaeological pieces made of marble in France that made necessary to document the quarries in this central area of \u200b\u200bFrance emerged to verify if the pieces that are currently being studied were made with marble from Ch\u00e2telperron and Chiddes.<\/p>\n
