{"id":85123,"date":"2023-04-24T13:49:03","date_gmt":"2023-04-24T11:49:03","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/?p=85123"},"modified":"2023-04-24T19:34:52","modified_gmt":"2023-04-24T17:34:52","slug":"new-archaeological-campaing-iulia-libica","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2023\/new-archaeological-campaing-iulia-libica\/","title":{"rendered":"New archaeological campaing in the Roman forum &#8216;Iulia Libica&#8217;"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>Last Tuesday, April 18, a new campaign of archaeological excavations began in the Roman forum <em>Iulia Libica<\/em> (Ll\u00edvia, La Cerdanya).<\/h6>\n<p>The archaeological works in the Roman forum <em>Iulia Libica<\/em> are led by the Autonomous University of Barcelona (UAB) and the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC).<\/p>\n<p>The Diputaci\u00f3 de Girona and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya collaborate on the project. The excavation works are led by archaeologists C\u00e8sar Carreras, \u00d2scar Trull\u00e0s, and Jordi Gu\u00e0rdia. There is also the participation of Arque\u00f2legs.cat.<\/p>\n<p>Leading director of the <em>Iulia Libica<\/em> research programme, <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/es\/quienes-somos\/personal\/jguitart\/\">Josep Guitart<\/a> (former ICAC director and now associate researcher), and the director of the excavation works, C\u00e8sar Carreras (UAB) made a visit to the site last Tuesday to organise the work to be carried out in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n<p>The services and supplies that passed through the deposit (electricity, water, and gas) were already extracted at the end of last year \u2013and channeled through a different area\u2013 which will allow excavation works to focus on the most central part of the archaeological site. At the end of this 2023 campaign, the space will have been fully discovered.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight-block\">\n<p>The City Council of Ll\u00edvia, the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology, and the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya signed last year the <a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2022\/the-excavation-campaign-at-the-roman-forum-of-iulia-libica-will-begin-in-2022-the-unification-of-its-eastern-part\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">agreement for the next 4 years (2022-2025)<\/a>, a document that gives continuity to the excavation work of the Roman Forum <em>Iulia Libica<\/em>.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The commitment of the administrations \u2013Generalitat de Catalunya, Diputaci\u00f3n de Girona, City Council of Ll\u00edvia, Autonomous University of Barcelona, and Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology\u2013 has remained intact since this project began in 2013.<\/p>\n<p>It should be pointed out that already in the first stage of annual archaeological campaigns evidence showed that <strong>ancient city of Ll\u00edvia was a <em>municipium<\/em>, capital city of Ceratani people; and its religious, political, and administrative center are preserved<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>The first stage of archaeological excavations in 2023 has begun, therefore, this April, and will end on May 31. The second phase of the archaeological campaign will take place in the months of August, September, and October.
