{"id":85887,"date":"2023-05-31T13:26:47","date_gmt":"2023-05-31T11:26:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/?p=85887"},"modified":"2023-05-31T14:19:28","modified_gmt":"2023-05-31T12:19:28","slug":"bic-valencia-la-vella","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/icac.cat\/en\/actualitat\/noticies\/2023\/bic-valencia-la-vella\/","title":{"rendered":"Archaeological site of Val\u00e8ncia &#8220;la Vella&#8221; stated as a Cultural Heritage of Interest (BIC)"},"content":{"rendered":"<h6>The archaeological site of Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217; has been stated Cultural Heritage of Interest (BIC) with the category of archaeological and paleontological zone by the Generalitat Valenciana.<\/h6>\n<p>The <span data-contrast=\"none\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gva.es\/va\/inicio\/presentacion\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Generalitat Valenciana<\/a><\/span> has approved the declaration of Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217; as a Cultural Heritage of Interest (BIC) with the category of archaeological and paleontological zone, along with fourteen other sites in the Comunitat Valenciana region.<\/p>\n<p>This measure aims <strong>to protect and preserve the valuable historical and cultural heritage of the region<\/strong>. Specifically, there are fourteen archaeological sites and one paleontological site, five of which are located in the province of Alicante, five in Castell\u00f3n, and the rest in Valencia.<\/p>\n<div class=\"highlight-block\">\n<p>Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217;, located in Riba-roja de T\u00faria, in the province of Valencia, is one of the fifteen sites recognized for their historical and scientific importance in the Comunitat Valenciana.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>The Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217; site is an ancient settlement dating back to the Visigothic period. It is believed to have been inhabited from the 5th century BCE to the 2nd century CE and presents a great archaeological wealth. Since 2016, the ICAC, in collaboration with local experts and institutions, has been carrying out extensive excavations to discover and preserve the remains of this ancient city.<\/p>\n<div class=\"destacat-entrevista dreta\">\n<div class=\"small-text\">\n<p><span data-contrast=\"none\">The ICAC, with its extensive experience and reputation in archaeological research, has been leading the excavations and studies at this exceptional site since 2016.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:0,&quot;335551620&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The main objective of the ICAC in Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217; is <strong>to gain a deeper understanding of the life and culture of the ancient inhabitants of the area<\/strong>. Foto: ICAC (cc 4.0).<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Advanced excavation techniques and scientific analysis are used to obtain as much information as possible about everyday life, cultural practices, and social interactions in Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217;.<\/p>\n<div class=\"destacat-entrevista dreta\">\n<div class=\"small-text\">\n<p>Thanks to the joint efforts of institutions, experts, and the community, these archaeological treasures are ensured to endure and be enjoyed by future generations.<span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335551550&quot;:0,&quot;335551620&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>The work of the ICAC at the Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217; site goes beyond excavation and the study of archaeological remains. They are also dedicated to the dissemination and valorization of this historical heritage. Educational activities, guided tours, and outreach programs are conducted to bring knowledge and awareness of this site to the local community and the general public.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/icac.cat\/es\/actualitat\/noticies\/2022\/presentacionplandirectorvalencialavella2022\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Strategic Plan for<\/a> Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;la Vella&#8217;<\/strong> has been underway since 2022 to transform the site and its surroundings into a large archaeological park with scientific, museography, educational, and touristic activities. In this case, the material came from an external source. It is most likely that its quarry was Edeta, a Roman municipality abandoned in the 5th century and located near the new settlement of Val\u00e8ncia &#8216;.la Vella&#8217;.<\/p>\n<p>This would imply transporting the stones about 12 km, although the nearby T\u00faria River would facilitate the transportation. The site was abandoned in the late 7th or early 8th century.
