We are pleased to share with you the updates on predoctoral researcher \u00d2scar Cald\u00e9s<\/strong><\/a> (MIRMED<\/a>), who is conducting a research stay in the vibrant city of Padua, in northern Italy, under the expert guidance of Dr. Michele Asolati<\/a><\/strong> from the Universit\u00e0 degli Studi di Padova<\/a>, a prominent numismatist specialized in Late Antiquity, the same period covered by our PhD researcher.<\/p>\n

\u00d2scar Cald\u00e9s<\/strong><\/a> is conducting a research project on the archaeological context of currency during Late Antiquity, within the interuniversity Doctoral Programme in Classical Archaeology (UAB-ICAC-URV)<\/a>. His thesis project is titled \u00bfMantenimiento, decadencia o adaptaci\u00f3n? Moneda y contexto arqueol\u00f3gico entre el Ebro y el J\u00facar durante la antig\u00fcedad tard\u00eda (c 409-714 d.C.)<\/a>, under the supervision of Josep Maria Macias<\/a> (MIRMED).<\/p>\n

Although the University of Padua<\/a> is undergoing relocation, during his stay, Cald\u00e9s has been able to establish his workplace in the Numismatic Section of the prestigious Bottacin Museum<\/strong><\/a>, at the Palazzo Zuckermann. An unparalleled environment to immerse oneself in the world of numismatics and exchange knowledge and experiences with other specialized researchers!<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

\"\"The numismatic section of the Bottacin Museum provides a collective workspace where researchers share experiences, working methods, projects, and discussions. I am making the most of my time here!<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Additionally, Cald\u00e9s has access to one of the most comprehensive numismatic libraries in the world, that of the Bottacin Museum<\/a>, which is an invaluable source of resources and information for his research.<\/p>\n

One of the main tasks during his research stay in Padua involves intensive bibliographic research<\/strong> to deepen his understanding of the Central and Western Mediterranean monetary circulation. This is crucial for situating the area of study, for his doctoral thesis, within a broader and more significant context.<\/p>\n

Through his research stay, PhD researcher \u00d2scar Cald\u00e9s<\/a> will be able to enrich his knowledge and academic perspective on the study of late antique numismatics, guided by Dr. Michele Asolati from the University of Padua.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

With Dr. Asolati<\/strong>‘s guidance, they tackle the most complex and debated points of late antique numismatics. The first result of this collaboration is the organization of a research seminar on numismatics<\/strong><\/a>, which will take place in the Sartori Room of the Palazzo Liviano (Padua) on April 17, 2024 (in-person).<\/p>\n

In the seminar, Cald\u00e9s<\/strong> will present an overview of the archaeonumismatic contexts from the 3rd to the 8th centuries AD in the area between the Ebro and the J\u00facar. Meanwhile, Dr. Asolati will deliver a presentation on the late Roman and Byzantine archaeological contexts in the Nile Delta, titled “Nile Delta: the use of bronze coinage between late antiquity and the Early Byzantine period”.<\/p>\n
