The ArPA-LIRA research group from the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC-CERCA) is organizing a round table as part of the Thematic Network RED2022-134955-T “Cosas de m\u00e1rmol<\/strong>: creaci\u00f3n, usos y reciclaje de las producciones marm\u00f3reas en Hispania”, led by Dr. Diana Gorostidi<\/a><\/span> (URV-ICAC).<\/p>\n

The event, taking place on October 24-25 in Vila Vi\u00e7osa (Alto Alentejo, Portugal)<\/strong>, will bring together experts from various research centers and international universities.<\/p>\n

This activity has a strong cross-disciplinary focus and aims to present scientific results from research groups and investigators from different institutions (ICAC-CERCA<\/a>, IGME-CSIC<\/a>, CHAIA<\/a><\/span>) and universities (UNED<\/a>, URV<\/a>, UAB<\/a><\/span>, Universidade de \u00c9vora<\/a><\/span>) to the public in a rigorous yet didactic way.<\/p>\n

Special emphasis will be placed on knowledge transfer activities between academia and local communities connected to the marble industry, an activity that continues to hold significant economic, social, and cultural importance in many areas of ancient Hispania<\/em>.<\/p>\n

As part of this, academic presentations will also feature projects and initiatives that highlight and engage the public with historical and geological heritage, such as the creation of audiovisual products through UNED Media<\/a><\/span>, collaborations with the tourism industry, or historical reenactment activities.<\/p>\n

Another key highlight of the round table will be the presentation of three documentaries<\/strong> from the series “El ciclo productivo del marmor en la pen\u00ednsula ib\u00e8rica desde la Antig\u00fcedad hasta nuestros d\u00edas<\/a><\/span>” (UNED Media<\/a><\/span>),\u00a0which were produced thanks to funding from RED2018-102722-T, under the direction of Dr. Virginia Garc\u00eda-Entero (UNED). These works have already gained significant exposure in Spain, including broadcasts on RTVE and screenings at festivals such as TarracoViva and FICAB.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the event will conclude with an on-site visit to several marble quarries in the area<\/strong>, including those in Vigaria (Lagoa) and Vila Vi\u00e7osa. This tour will allow participants to closely observe an important marble production center from Roman Lusitania<\/em>, which remains active today with a global distribution network.<\/p>\n

The meeting will feature significant participation from members of the ICAC-CERCA<\/a><\/span>, the\u00a0IGME-CSIC<\/a><\/span>, the CHAIA<\/a><\/span>, the UNED<\/a><\/span>, the URV<\/a><\/span>, the UAB<\/a><\/span> and the Universidade de \u00c9vora<\/a><\/span>, offering a cross-disciplinary and multidisciplinary perspective on the marble industry.<\/p>\n

This is especially relevant in areas where marble production remains an important source of economic, social, and cultural value, such as Vila Vi\u00e7osa (Portugal).<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
