This research project aims to develop a broad and multidisciplinary geoarchaeological approach to analyze Late-Holocene landscape evolution in the ancient Mediterranean. It will combine state-of-the-art methods from geomorphology, sedimentology and palaeopedology with landscape archaeology data and cutting-edge remote sensing techniques. Results obtained in study areas of Greece, Spain and France will allow to locally reconstruct long-term socio-environmental interaction, landscape change and environmental impacts from the onset of the Neolithic and the emergence of the first urban settlements to the consolidation of the anthropogenic forcing of natural systems under the Roman rule.
