Land survey is an important archaeological method to recover new sites. My expertise in identifying pottery and understanding landscape were combined in my Marie Curie fellowship with new technologies to advance my academic and research career. Through TransMed I have the great opportunity to learn about GIS, use of Drones and Remote Sensing and apply these methods to landscape settings in different parts of the Mediterranean.
The change of academic environment from the UK to Greece and now to Spain has been a great opportunity for me to interact and learn new diverse ways of working in archaeology, enriching my understanding and the array of methods and techniques that can be applied in this discipline. The challenge for me is to utilize all this knowledge and incorporate it into my expertise and research ethos.
My host institution ICAC has been a hospitable place where research can be cultivated. It helps in transfers of knowledge, interaction of researchers and the advancement of state of the art techniques and technologies. It is at the forefront of forming new landscape and survey methodologies, which will change in the next decade the way the archaeological study of the landscape is conducted. It is very exciting to be an active part of such a change in a discipline by adding my expertise and research. All this experience will definitely improve my academic and research profile for my next career move.
