Dr. Encarnació Ricart Martí has been appointed Secretary of the ICAC-CERCA Board of Directors, succeeding our dear colleague Antoni González Senmartí, who passed away at the end of March 2024.
The appointment took place at the last Board of Directors meeting of the Institute, held (in hybrid format) on June 19, 2024.
Encarnació Ricart is the current Ombudsperson of the Rovira i Virgili University (URV), with a term that began in November 2019 and will complete the established five-year period in November 2024.
Professor of Roman Law, she retired in 2019 with a long career in research, teaching, and management at URV. She was one of the driving forces behind the Faculty of Legal Sciences, the first director of the Department of Law, and the Vice-Rector for Society and Institutional Relations between 2010 and 2014. She has been the principal investigator on 5 projects for the Spanish ministry responsible for universities and has 4 research sexennials, 6 teaching quinquennials, and 3 management merits.
Having also been a professor in the interuniversity Master’s in Classical Archaeology (URV-ICAC-UAB), she is well acquainted with the Institute, its projects, and the people who work there. Josep Maria Palet, director of ICAC-CERCA, has expressed his gratitude that Ricart has altruistically accepted the position and joined the center’s governing team. Welcome!

Additionally, the Board of Directors approved the Institute’s activity report (which we will soon publish and disseminate through the usual channels), along with the financial closure of 2023, the anti-fraud measures plan, the renewal of the ethical code, and the new version of the equality plan. The session also served to inform about the actions and strategies for 2024. From ICAC-CERCA, we thank all the Board members for their dedication to this task, the work done, and their contribution to the good governance and functioning of the Institute.
