Dr. Weiya Li has visited us

29 April 2025

Archaeobotany – archaeology of food at GIAP/ICAC – Visiting scholar in April

This April, Dr Weiya Li, specialist in use wear and starch analysis, had a research stay at GIAP-ICAC to work with Dr Alexandra Livarda.

Dr Li currently holds a César Nombela position at the Department of Humanities at the University Carlos III of Madrid. He is working on a new project that investigates alimentary traditions in the Iberian Peninsula during the historic periods, paying particular attention to the history of rice and its diffusion.

During this stay at ICAC, Drs Li and Livarda had the opportunity to share the results of their research, discuss practical and methodological aspects on food studies, and ultimately make plans and set up new collaborations towards the investigation of Roman and Late Antique foodways in the Iberian Peninsula. They both hope that this was only the first step towards a fruitful long-term collaboration!
