The project aims to bring the results of landscape archaeology research closer to the public, carried out in high mountain areas of the Pyrenees (Coma de Vaca Valley, Queralbs, Girona). This landscape is characterized by its great heritage and cultural value, with evidence of occupation from the Neolithic to contemporary times.
The project will focus on the transfer and educational dissemination of the research results of the GIAP, a research group of the ICAC. The proposal seeks to raise awareness through educational and outreach actions around mountain cultural landscapes, highlighting the historical and cultural antiquity of specific features. To achieve this, a series of actions and activities are proposed to create educational products that explain and ensure the social impact of the project’s results, aimed at the local population:
- Implement a permanent heritage trail to visit and promote the livestock exploitation areas and pastoral archaeological sites in the valley.
- Inclusive adaptation of the contents of the Arqueopirenaia website, the traveling exhibition, and the educational lab.
- Produce the documentary ArqueoPirenaia: Science and Heritage in the Eastern Pyrenees.
- Create an illustrated publication on Landscape Archaeology in the Nuria and Coma de Vaca Valleys.
The dissemination of the mountain cultural landscape will also serve as a sustainable development resource for the local population, within the framework of archaeotourism and cultural tourism. The results will become a resource to attract participants to tourism-related activities, a sector that plays a significant role in the local economy.
The proposed activities will contribute to two complementary aspects: the education and recognition of a mountain cultural landscape, and local development linked to the valorization of this archaeological heritage, along with greater social awareness.
The project has received support from Fundación Española para la Ciencia y la Tecnología – Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades
