This team focuses on the Roman town and its structure within the territory from the perspective of urban archaeology and rural population. The research centres on four regions: Camp de Tarragona (Tarraco), La Segarra and L’Urgell (Iesso), Vallès Oriental, El Maresme and La Cerdanya (Iulia Libica). As part of the international Tabula Imperii Romani/Forma Orbis Romani project, it cooperates directly with groups from diverse countries working on the same subject to allow comparative analyses of various ancient Roman regions.
The main objective of the research undertaken by this group is to analyse the solutions implemented by the Roman powers to control certain territories on the Iberian Peninsula in the period immediately after the conquest and prior to the foundation of towns. It analyses the different settlement typologies: logistics centres, camps, castella, administrative control centres, etc.
