‘Cuisine and crafts in Bronze Age Crete: the contribution of archaeomalacology’
Dr Rena Veropoulidou, The American School of Classical Studies at Athens (Greece)
Webinar will be held online, at this link. Open to public!
Abstract:
Dietary resources and crafts in Bronze Age Crete are issues that have attracted much research attention in Aegean archaeology. Despite the fact that many settlements on the island are located near the coast, the role of marine resources has not been included in these discussions. In this webinar, the continuously growing evidence from the study of marine shells will be presented with the aim to reveal aspects of dietary practices and crafts, especially the production of purple dye. This will demonstrate new aspects of lifeways from the Early to the Late Bronze Age in Crete that are rarely considered.
