The act of The constitution of the new Advisory Council of Archaeology of Guissona took place last Monday, April 17, in Guissona.
This new municipal body has been created to ensure the protection, conservation, research, dissemination, and enhancement of Guissona’s heritage, promoting its socio-economic and cultural use.
The new body integrates different public bodies (Guissona City Council, La Segarra County Council, Lleida Provincial Council, and General Directorate of Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya), research organizations (Institut d’Estudis Catalans, Autonomous University of Barcelona and Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology) and a private company (Bon Àrea), with the joint vocation of collaborating for the progress of Guissona and the management of its archaeological heritage.
The creation of this entity responds to the national interest of the vestiges of the Roman city of Iesso
The event was chaired by the Mayor of Guissona, Mr. Jaume Ars, and was attended by: Agnès Pla (Guissona City Council), Maria Teresa Miró (Generalitat de Catalunya, Archaeology Service), Anna Maria Garrido (Generalitat de Catalunya), Josep Esquerra (Consell Comarcal de la Segarra), Marta Prevosti (Institut d’Estudis Catalans), Miquel Molist (Institut d’Estudis Catalans), Josep Maria Palet (Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology), and Daniel Marsol (Bon Àrea).
The event was also attended by Dr. Josep Guitart (professor emeritus of the UAB and associate researcher at the ICAC), Dr. Joaquim Pera, Dr. Núria Romaní, and Dr. Esther Rodrigo. Finally, the curator of the Museum of Guissona, Mr. Josep Ros, and its director, Mr. David Castellana, also attended.
The Council of Archaeology of Guissona, which depends on the City Council of Guissona, collects in a symbolic way the testimony of the former Board of Archaeology of Guissona, responsible for archaeological research and enhancement of the local heritage between 1995 and 2015.
The new Guissona Archaeology Advisory Council will have an advisory role in the management of Guissona’s archaeological heritage and will meet several times throughout the year. It should be noted that the creation of this entity responds to the national interest of the vestiges of the Roman city of Iesso and that, remarkably, it will belong to the General Directorate of Heritage of the Generalitat de Catalunya.
The new organization will act as support for the City Council and the Museum of Guissona in their functions and will contribute to the orientation of the research and visibility of the archaeological heritage of the Roman city of Iesso.
