The event served as an opportunity to reflect on and celebrate the cultural heritage of Constantí, providing a rich and diverse look at the town’s history through a multidisciplinary lens.
Last Friday, September 27, the square in front of the Refugi in Constantí became the venue for the launch of the 40th edition of Estudis de Constantí, an annual journal dedicated to historical and social research on the town.
The event featured remarks from Constantí’s mayor, Óscar Sánchez, and Dr. Josep M. Macias, an archaeologist from the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC-CERCA), who introduced the special issue’s contents.
In his opening speech, the mayor announced plans for a special celebration next year to mark the 40th anniversary of the journal’s first publication. He also paid tribute to the late Professor Theodor Hauschild, recognizing his pivotal role in the recovery and international recognition of the Roman site at Centcelles.
Dr. Macias, who coordinates the research team on Late Antique and Christian Archaeology and has led numerous excavations at the Roman villa of Mas dels Frares in Constantí, gave a detailed overview of the seven articles featured in this year’s edition.
These articles cover a wide range of topics, including the arrival of Roman art, a deep dive into the Roman villa of Centcelles, and studies on subjects like ecclesiastical land registers, immigration, and Francoist repression in Constantí.
The featured articles in this 40th edition include:
