Jordi Oliver Vert, member of the Archaeometric Studies Unit of ICAC-CERCA, has been awarded the Francesc Eiximenis Scholarship 2024.

The institute Institut Ramon Muntaner (IRMU) and the Diputació de Girona have agreed to award the Francesc Eiximenis Research Scholarships 2024 to the following studies:

  • «La decoració marmòria a les vil·les romanes de les comarques de Girona», presented by researcher Jordi Oliver (ICAC-CERCA).
  • «El cicle de la vida de l’Edifici 1 del Turó de Vilanera. Estudi arquitectònic, funcional i simbòlic d’una construcció rural ibèrica», presented by researcher Margalida A. Coll.

This grant, announced annually, aims to encourage the study of social and human sciences and natural sciences. The awarded researchers will have €4,500 and one year to complete the work.

The works have been examined by a jury composed of the Monitoring Commission constituted within the framework of the XXI Meeting of Study Centers of the Girona Counties, and a representative of the Diputació de Girona.

In the current edition, the projects, which according to the scholarship’s rules must be linked to the Girona counties, will focus on ancient times and be based on archaeological materials.

The study proposed by Jordi Oliver aims to approach trade routes, workshops, artistic fashions, and the economic level of the studied villas in the Girona counties through the marble artistic productions that adorned them.

In the case of the research proposed by Margalida Coll, the aim is to analyze in detail a settlement that presents an occupation pattern not previously known in the Empordà area.

Subsequently, both studies will be presented in the ‘Converses Eiximenis’ series that takes place in the fall at the Carles Rahola Public Library in Girona and will feature the participation of the Ramón y Cajal researcher and co-director of the UEA of ICAC-CERCA, Anna Gutiérrez Garcia-Moreno.

The Converses Eiximenis series aims to present the completed works awarded in previous calls. This is a complementary activity to the scholarships and is organized by the Institut Ramon Muntaner, Diputació de Girona, Institut de Recerca en Patrimoni Cultural (IRPC-CERCA), public library Biblioteca Pública de Girona – Carles Rahola and Coordinadora de Centres d’Estudis de Parla Catalana.
