The Cultur-Monts project promotes the enhancement of the area’s archaeological and landscape heritage through new interpretive panels and an archaeological trail at Coll de Molleres
Members of the Cultural and Palaeoenvironmental Landscape Archaeology team of the Landscape Archaeology Research Group (GIAP) at the Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC) travelled to Meranges and the Malniu-Puigpedrós area to oversee the installation of new heritage signage linked to the Cultur-Monts project.
The initiative includes the installation of interpretive panels at various locations throughout the municipality of Meranges and around the Malniu Refuge, as well as a series of interpretive and directional posts marking the new archaeological trail at Coll de Molleres. The work was carried out with technical support from the company Geosilva.
This is the first initiative aimed at enhancing the cultural landscape heritage of the Tossa Plana de Lles-Puigpedrós Protected Natural Area. The intervention has been organised into three levels of signage, agreed upon and approved by Meranges Town Council, the managers of Malniu Refuge and other local stakeholders.
Discovering heritage beyond its natural values
The new resources are designed to help visitors discover and understand the historical and heritage significance of this mountain environment, beyond its natural and biodiversity values. The signage facilitates the interpretation of archaeological remains and the cultural landscape, while providing visitors with tools to explore and enjoy this heritage.
The aim is to contribute to a sustainable local development model through resources that highlight the value of the area’s heritage and create new opportunities for discovery, always respecting the natural environment and the communities that inhabit it.
Archaeological research and knowledge transfer
This initiative is part of the heritage enhancement activities carried out within the framework of the Cultur-Monts project, in which the GIAP team is responsible for the interventions in the Pyrenees. The initiative connects archaeological research with the local area and helps bring the results of scientific work to the wider public.
At the same time, the team continues to develop complementary resources, such as audiovisual and educational materials, to expand the channels through which research findings and knowledge can be disseminated and transferred.
This initiative helps make high-mountain archaeological heritage more accessible and strengthens its recognition as part of the Pyrenean cultural landscape.
The Cultur-Monts project is a European initiative funded by the Interreg Sudoe programme, which promotes the enhancement of cultural and natural heritage as a driver of sustainable development in territories across south-western Europe.
