The meeting will bring together the teams from the participating institutions to present the project’s results and define strategies for its continuation
From 9 to 12 November 2026, the city of Braga (Portugal) will host the ninth Cultur-Monts project working meeting, marking the conclusion of more than three years of transnational cooperation focused on the study, conservation and enhancement of the cultural landscapes of mountain areas across the Sudoe region.
The Catalan Institute of Classical Archaeology (ICAC), through its Landscape Archaeology Research Group (GIAP), leads the Cultur-Monts project. The Institute’s director, Dr. Josep M. Palet, is the project’s lead partner representative and will play a prominent role in the meeting, alongside other members of the group, including Dr. Marta Flórez and Dr. Arnau Carbonell, who will take part in several working sessions.
The meeting will take place at the São Francisco Convent, home to the Archaeology Unit of the University of Minho, and will bring together the teams from the project’s beneficiary institutions. During the meeting, participants will review the work carried out in the different pilot areas in Spain, Portugal and France, and share the results and experiences gathered throughout the project.
A significant part of the programme will be devoted to presenting the results of Cultur-Monts’ three working groups, which have focused on research into cultural mountain landscapes, their conservation and management, and the development of innovative strategies for their social and territorial enhancement.
One of the meeting’s main objectives will be to define the joint Cultur-Monts strategy and its transnational action plan. The teams will identify lessons learned from the different pilot experiences that can contribute to enhancing cultural mountain landscapes. They will also work on developing a strategic document that addresses the needs of public authorities and territorial stakeholders.
Ensuring the continuation of the initiatives developed through the project will be another key focus of the meeting. In this regard, the programme will include sessions dedicated to analysing the new call for proposals on enhancement under the Interreg Sudoe programme, identifying results that can be transferred to other territories and exploring new opportunities to expand the social, institutional, economic and territorial impact of Cultur-Monts.
The programme also includes the technical, administrative and financial closure of the project, as well as various communication and dissemination activities, including meetings with the media and visits to Braga’s heritage sites.
The official closing event will take place on 11 November, with the participation of the project coordinators and beneficiary institutions. The meeting will mark the end of more than three years of cooperation between research institutions, public administrations and territorial stakeholders from different regions of south-western Europe.
