MIRMED researcher M. Carme Belarte (ICREA research professor) will hold a scientific seminar at the ICS Archaeology Series, next February, 22nd, with the topic:
“Global archaeology and the peripheral Mediterranean civilisations: the examples of Iberians and Numidians”
The aim of this talk is to reflect on the position of peripheral Mediterranean Iron Age societies in the general framework of archaeological research, particularly with respect to Classical Archaeology. The non-classical Mediterranean cultures have been largely neglected and their study has been long dominated by ethnocentric and colonial paradigms. Two study cases are discussed, the Iberians in the Mediterranean area of the Iberian Peninsula, and Numidians in North Africa, as examples of autochthonous cultures that should be analyzed from an emic perspective, and not from their relationships with classical civilizations.
This seminar will take place on Zoom. Booking is essential! Book here or from the Seminar webpage.
